Situated 24km north of Launceston it serves a large rural district as an important
fruit growing area.
The Beaconsfield Bicentennial Committee developed a lookout dedicated to the notorious
bushranger Matthew Brady which can be seen on the east side of the road and provides extensive views
over the Tamar Valley.
There is an accredited visitor centre in Exeter towards the northern end, on the highway.
