Named for the narrow channel which connects the Tuggerah Lake to the ocean,
The Entrance is a popular Central Coast holiday spot offering surfing, sailing,
swimming, scenic drives, picnic and BBQ facilities and golf. It has been a popular holiday destination for millions since the first guest house was established in 1885, and is currently experiencing strong growth with new hotels and redevelopment of residential areas. It is believed Europeans first discovered it in 1796 when Governor of Tasmania, Colonel David Collins, a 'First Fleeter', visited there on a search for an escaped convict woman, Mary Morgan, said to be living with aborigines to the North of the Hawkesbury River. The site was first occupied by Henry Holden in 1828 who named the property 'Towoon'. A coastal boardwalk has information boards detailing the history of the area. There is a park, undercover BBQ's and picnic tables and daily Pelican Feeding at 3.30pm in Memorial Park. At the southern end of the beach there are two safe ocean baths. The Entrance Visitor Information Centre is located on Marine Parade. The Wyrrabalong National Park lies to the north. |
