Roadhouse on the Eyre Highway with a fuel, food and accommodation, and a caravan park.
There is an airstrip and a monument to John Baxter, partner of Edward John Eyre on an epic
crossing of the country from Adelaide in 1841. Baxter was killed by treacherous aboriginals
accompanying them on the expedition who then fled into the desert with most of the party's
supplies. Eyre, and the remaining faithful aboriginal, Wylie, pressed on and were eventually
rescued near Esperance by a French ship exploring the coastline.
The motel at Caiguna is named the John Eyre Motel after him, as is the highway.
The site was established 1962 to provide additional services along the highway for
visitors to the Commonwealth Games in Perth in that year.
