The main industry of Ingham is Sugar production and you wil drive through kilometres of
cane fields which line both sides of the highway on all approaches to the town. In the early days Kanaka labour was used to cut the cane but the introduction of new laws in the 1900s saw the workload move to Italian immigrants and this heritage is celebrated annually in the Australian Italian Festival held each May. Surrounded by national parks and opposite some of Queensland's finest beaches and islands, Ingham is a great place to take a holiday. The nearby Lumholtz National Park holds the Wallaman falls, Australia's longest drop falls, and there are scenic drives and walks, boating on the Great Barrier Reef, and Memorial Gardens featuring Orchids to explore.
