Established in 1861 and named after the first Governor of Queensland, Bowen was the first
settlement in Northern Queensland. Situated on the shore of Port Denison, it has an excellent climate boasting 8 hours of sunshine daily, and is noted for its agricultural products, especially tomatos and mangos. There is an historical museum, and there is an Art, Craft and Orchid Expo each August. The Coral Coast Festival held in October or November. PLACES OF INTEREST:
