The original town of Wyndham Port is located on Cambridge Gulf and the township of Wyndham
East is on the highway some 30 km. from the port, and is the main commercial and residential
area. Wyndham is the most northerly town and harbour in Western Australia and the entrance is dominated by an 18m. sculpture of a big crocodile standing 3 metres high. The town is known as the home of the 'big croc', a reflection of the large numbers of saltwater crocodiles in the Cambidge Gulf and West Arm Estuary. At the port the old Port Post Office, Durack's Store (now Wyndham Port Hardware), the old Court House and Anthon's Landing are reminders of early settlement, and are included in a Heritage Trail walk. A brochure on the walk can be obtained from the Information Centre. A display of early trains which carried cargo to the wharf can be seen next to the marine and Harbours Office and site of the wreck of the S.S. 'Koolama' which was bombed and sunk in the harbour during World War 2, can be seen at low tide. PLACES OF INTEREST: Wyndham Crocodile Farm Open daily to visitors, the crocodile farm was established for the breeding and commercial supply of hides and meat for the commercial market. Five Rivers Lookout At the peak of the Bastion Range overlooking cambridge Gulf, it affords a panorama across the Forrest, Pentecost, King, Durack and Ord Rivers Australia's largest Boab Tree Around 25 metres in circumference, this tree is affectionately known locally as 'Australia's largest Boab Tree in Captivity' a reference to its location in the Three Mile Caravan Park, and its gigantic size. The trees store water in their trunks and are often referred to as 'bottle trees'. This is a massive example. Another Boab located on the King River Rd. and called the 'Prison Tree', was used to house overnight prisoners by police patrols. Aboriginal Cave Paintings Aboriginal paintings can be seen near the town Warriu Park Monument A group of statues depicting aboriginal family and Dreamtime legends.
