Zeehan has experienced its share of highs and lows over the past 100
years, with its fortunes intrinsically linked to those of local mining. The
best way to learn about the 'boom or bust' periods is to view exhibits
in the West Coast Pioneers' Memorial Museum, which is housed in the School
of Mines established in 1894. The Gaiety Theatre and the Old Grand Hotel are
among other buildings erected in Zeehan's heyday. Now it is the main residential
base for employees engaged in Renison Ltd. operations. Zeehan is an ideal point
from which to visit old mining sites and pioneer settlements, plus recent hydro
power developments.
