On the banks of the Leven River amongst breathtaking scenery is the township of
Ulverstone. It offers proudly maintained memorial parks, parklands and picnic areas to be enjoyed while the outskirts are a wonderland to explore. The memorial clock dominates the city centre and the visitor centre is nearby. Visit the park on the foreshore where there is a giant sculpture of a globe of the world. The hub of a rich farming area, Ulverstone's location on the Leven River has significantly influenced the leisure pursuits of its residents and visitors. Fishing is good in the river and estuary and a number of BBQ and picnic spots have been developed along the river banks. In addition, Ulverstone has some of the state's finest beaches, with an emphasis on sailing, powerboating, surfing and swimming. There is a major shopping and commerce centre, several motels and caravan parks, and other accommodation. What to see and Do: View the panorama from the West Ulverstone lookout, see the War Memorial, which dominates the town centre, and the Merv Wright Memorial Fountain, take a trip to Jean Brook Forestry Park and Leven Canyon (36km), Cradle Mountain (day trip) or Gunns Plains Caves (23km).
