Since way back in the early 1820's Triabunna, meaning 'native hen' in Aboriginal language, has initially been a small
industries township. Industries such as sandstone quarries, whaling stations and apple orchards. Staging point for the ferry to Maria Island. Triabunna is a commercial port and the base for ferries to Maria Island (from Triabunna Wharf and the Eastcoaster Resort). What to See and Do: Visit Maria Island, and the Pioneer Working Horse Museum (working displays, crafts and souvenirs). Good beaches for swimming, and good fishing. Charter boats available and scenic flights. Sufi's has a wide range of gifts and souvenirs. For accommodation there is a caravan park and an hotel motel. Most basic services will be found in the small commercial centre including banks and a hotel opposite the visitor centre. There is a boat ramp and pleasant views of the harbour.
