Situated 25km from Hobart is the peaceful township of Snug. Dating back to the pioneer days the towns history is displayed at the Channel Historical Museum. Visit Snug Falls Track for some glorious walking paths. Snug is believed to have gained its unusual name from the safe, 'snug' anchorage it provided in the Snug River in the early days of sailing ships. The small town is only 25km south of Hobart and a pleasant stop on a tour of the channel. Proclaimed in 1908, the towns history is displayed at the Channel Historical Museum on the southern side of the town on the highway.. Nearby is the Snug Falls Track for some glorious walking paths, marked in the town as 'Snug Tiers'. Large freestone deposits are found at Snug and blocks from here were used to build the Melbourne Post Office. While in Snug you might like to call in to the Snug Tavern and enjoy a meal and try your luck at the pokies. I often do as it is a nice break along the journey. As you enter Snug from the north, just before the river, on the left, is Kelly's Fruit and Veg shop offering some of the finest Tasmanian and local produce including local honey. Seafood de Mayne in the main street offers a large range of fresh Tasmanian seafood.
