Located 19km from Hobart is the pretty rural township of Margate. Boasting the lovely Dru Point Bi-Centennial Park on the foreshore of North West Bay featuring channel cruises. The park offers great walks, and activities. Margate is the final whistle-stop of Tasmania's last passenger steam train, the Tasman Limited, and you will see this loco and carriages as you enter the town from Hobart. The Margate Train is now an information centre, and several shops now operate from its carriages including art and craft, a cafe, antiques and second-hand goods. Margate is a small town in the popular Channel area on the B68 Channel Hwy. There is a small shopping centre with most of the facilities you might require, and a wharf onto the Derwent River will be found just north of the town. Ideal for fishing or relaxing.
