During the 1800s Derby was a flourishing tin mining township and home of the famous Briseis Mine. Derby is now a part of the 'Trail of the Tin Dragon', which follows the tin mining route from Scottsdale across the road to St Helens. Information is available along the way. The old Derby School and some of the old mine buildings have been restored into a mine museum with fascinating displays.
Today, it's primarily a farming community but visitors can learn about the heyday of mining at restored and recreated attractions.
