Deloraine is located mid way between Launceston and Devonport and is a classified
historic town. Magnificent colonial buildings reflect the towns early history, with pastoral scenery against a backdrop of the Great Western Tiers. Its location makes it a popular first, or last, stop along the Bass Highway for passengers on the Spirit of Tasmania to take a break amongst an attractive and typical Tasmanian town. There is a well equipped information centre in the main street which can give you plenty of touring advice and help you plan your trip. Deloraine is also the northern junction of the Lakes Highway which passes through the Central Highlands and joins the Midland Highway at Melton Mowbray, north of Hobart. This road has some loose surface sections around Miena and the Great Lake but is a very scenic alternative route to Hobart or the west coast. Another road leads from Deloraine along the Western Tiers, through Chudleigh and Mole Creek to Cradle Mountain and the west coast. It passes several attractions including a honey shop and a wildlife park. What to see and do: Folk Museum and Cider Bar, Deloraine Antiques and Old Sewing Box Museum, old mills, St Mark's Church of England (1857), fishing, swimming, horse racing and, farther afield, excursions to the Great Western Tiers, Walls of Jerusalem and King Solomon and Marakoopa limestone caves (34km) and the Trowunna Wildlife Park and Koala Village at Mole Creek (20km).
