Originally named Port de Cygnet Noir, meaning Black Swanport by French Admiral
D'Entrecasteaux it eventually became known as Cygnet due to the abundance
of Black Swans in the bay. Small town at the centre of a large apple and hop growing area on the Huon River south west of Huonville. Easily visited on a round trip of the Channel. My father, Jack Wallace, lived here all his life. Visit the historic museum, art and craft shops and nearby wineries. Fishing from the wharf is a popular pastime, and you can play a round of golf, or spend a little time in Burton's reserve beside and Port Cygnet.
