Hyde Park is a large park in Sydney, on the eastern side of the Sydney CBD and is
part of a group of parklands extending north through Government House to the Harbour.
It is an approximate rectangle, confined to the west by Elizabeth Street, the east by College
Street, the north by St James Road and Prince Albert Road and in the south by
Liverpool Street.
It features well-kept gardens with approximately 600 trees and is famed for its magnificent
fig tree lined avenues, but in 2005 a number of disease-affected trees were discovered and felled.
Later investigation found a significant number of the trees were infected with fungi.
It is anticipated about 230 diseased trees will be removed and replaced.
