Sydney Harbour is a major cruise ship destination and is the only port in Australia with two
dedicated cruise-passenger terminals - the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay and
Wharf 8 Darling Harbour Passenger Terminal. Both are located in the heart of the city and
close to major tourist attractions.
The cruise industry is seen globally as the fastest growing segment of the tourism market,
with the Australian cruise sector having grown by 35 per cent over the past two years.
It is estimated that last year the cruise industry contributed approximately $260 million to
the State's economy .
During the last international cruise season, (November and April), Sydney Harbour received a record
number of 33 international vessel visits. Each year Sydney receives over 100 domestic and
international cruise vessels and is home base to the Pacific Dawn, operated by P&O Cruises.
