Ouyen is at the crossroads between Sydney and Adelaide, and the Southern Victorian
Coast and the Sunraysia area around Mildura. In the centre of the vast Murray
Mallee area and a livestock and grain producing region surrounded by extensive
plains. To the south, the Wyperfeld National Park is one of Victoria's most
important wilderness areas, and to the north, the Hattah Kulkyne and Murray
Kulkyne National Parks reflect the arid nature of the region. A Vanilla Slice competition is held annually for big prizes and there is an interesting Giant Log in the park with a plaque.
