The Bellarine Peninsula Steam Railway can be one of the highlights of a visit
to the Bellarine Peninsula. The railway is operated voluntarily by members of
the Geelong Steam Preservation Society which commenced regular steam train operations
in 1979, and by the mid '80's were running trains the 18km from Queenscliff
to Drysdale. the original Geelong-Queenscliff line closed in 1976 after 98 years.
Trains depart Queenscliff station regularly on Sundays, stopping at Lakers
Siding and turning at Drysdale. The return journey takes under 2 hours. Other
services such as the 'Sausage Sizzler', and the 'Pancake Express'
are also run by the society.
Timetables vary throughout the year. For example, journeys operate
on most days in January. Train hire and group bookings can also be arranged.
An exhilarating experience into the past. |
