MELBOURNE TO SYDNEY
Via The Princes Highway (1): The Coastal Route
The Princes Highway begins at Melbourne and travels through the Gippsland region of Victoria in
the east, before crossing the Victoria/New South Wales border and following the coast through the
pretty seaside towns of Eden, Kiama and Batemans Bay to reach Sydney through Wollongong and the
Royal National Park.
From Batemans Bay you can head west to visit Canberra and join the Hume Highway for the journey
into Sydney, and at Nowra or Wollongong you can turn west along the Illawarra Highway through the
beautiful Southern Highlands.
There are some fascinating things to see. Spectacular coastline follows the eastern edge of the
border, and the Australian Alps can be reached from most major towns between Sale and Batemans
Bay.
