Originally called Bunerba the post office opened in 1915. Located on the Dee River it is at the centre of a diverse farming area including stud cattle, horses, pigs, squab, aquaculture, lucerne and grain, flowers and citrus. The name is aboriginal for 'Steep Bank' referring to the river.
