Located on Charlie's Creek, just west of the Great Dividing Range, Chinchilla is at the centre
of a large grain and stock area on the Darling Downs. The name was adapted from the aboriginal
"jinjilla" and was named by explorer Ludwig Leichhardt when he passed that way in 1844. There are world renowned petrified wood deposits and boating and fishing on the Condamine River is a favourite pastime. Chinchilla is also called the 'Melon Capital of Australia' and produces around 25% of the country's watermelons. PLACES OF INTEREST: ACCOMMODATION & SERVICES: |
