Called "The Capital of The Channel Country", Boulia is 360km. west of Winton, 295km. south of
Mount Isa and 240km. east of the Northern Territory Border, and that is bloody-well Outback ! Places to visit include the Stone Cottage (1880), the oldest house in the town, and now a museum displaying aboriginal artefacts and memorabilia of the town. "The Red Stump" in Herbert St. warns of the dangers to travellers in the Simpson Desert, and there are artificial "Min Min Lights", a natural phenomenum which occurs in Outback Regions. There is varied local and migratory birdlife on the Burke River and each August,there is a Rodeo and Gymkhana. Things to see around Boulia include the ruins of the police barracks, 19km. south; the Burke and Wills tree, 110km. north east on the banks of the Burke River; and the Diamantina Gates National Park, 150km. south east.
