Wilsons Promontory view	Wilsons Promontory is located some 200km. south east of Melbourne and occupies an area of around 50,000 hectares, forming the southern-most tip of the Australian Mainland, and occupying the whole peninsula. It is surrounded by the Wilsons Promontory Marine Park, which contains diverse and interesting marine life, estuarine swamps, fantastic beaches and spectacular rocky coastline. Wilsons Promontory was first set aside as a National Park in 1898 and is renowned for its natural, cultural and historic values and is recognised internationally as a Biosphere Reserve, designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. (UNESCO) in 1982. It is among Victoria's most popular parks and has spectacular granite landscapes, extensive panoramas, cool fern gullies, rain-forests and plenty of scope for activities. Camping, swimming, scuba-diving, snorkelling, nature study and swimming are only a few things to do. There is an information centre at Tidal River at the end of the entrance road which can tell you all about what to do and see, and there are several spots where you may camp to savour the atmosphere and scenery for several days.
